By studying history of sorts, students ask probing questions, entertain thoughts of preconceived assumptions and grow to recognize that all humans struggle, bounce back and succeed with hard work.

The purpose of this lesson is to give you a resource you can use in ANY middle school grade level class to nurture engagement and interest in famous theater artists and especially Cynthia Erivo, aTony Emmy and Grammy winner.
We know that through participation in theater, students develop speaking and listening skills. Students collaborate with others in accomplishing common goals. Theatre arts promotes creativity in problem solving.

A teacher can use this as a stand alone lesson, prepare it for a substitute or expand upon the subject afterward with other famous theater biographies.
Though many schools do not have a drama teacher, a music or language arts teacher could use this lesson. Plus, you can use it as a stepping off point for your own ideas.
